....and the floods came

We thought the floods receeded from Debbi's house and the fun was over. Nope. We were wrong. We are sharing a garage with some friends, and they ventured in today to find it had flooded during our last storm. Joy. All the boxes we had on the floor were soaked through. Jon has spent the afternoon washing Brooklyn's baby clothes and boy clothes that we were given for Mason and never needed. He washed all our winter stuff (since I decided to box it up this year...), and the utensils we'd been given for our wedding, but were waiting to use until we were settled and wouldn't beat them up so bad. We tossed lots of boxes, and it looks like I'll be tossing all of Brooklyn's old shoes (some never worn) because we don't know how to get the smell out. My floor mirror has mold on it, and some great sized-boxes that were empty are now ruined. Luckily, the books we had out there were up higher so I don't think they got wet. We'll see. I need to go out and rearrange. I've been wanting to reorganize Brooklyn's old clothes, but I didn't really want to do it this way. I really really stink at organizing (any volunteers????), so I'm not really looking forward to doing it. I have lots of little boxes of clothes though and they could be done lots better. It's such a PAIN! I definitely need to get a system. I've already got a too-small box of Mason's clothes overflowing in their bedroom....OH well. Maybe I'll be adventurous and get that done this week. I really will take volunteers to organize, though....any takers?? anyone??? :D.

welcome the newest member of the Hibshman family

We did it. We bought a new car; and I mean new car. Our Chrysler was getting up there in miles and was still worth some money, so we decided it was a good time to get rid of it. (Small tear in leaving it behind, though). We were lucky enough to get a 2007 Chevy HHR for only about $10 more a month than we were paying for the Chrysler. It gets better gas mileage, and is a stick. How can you argue with that? It was kinda hard to leave our dear Seabring behind though. I was sad not to have my camera, but we took a few phone shots. Hopefully those tranfer ok, when I get around to sending them. We went looking for an Equinox and found this. We're excited for our new addition, although I have to admit; It's a little strange to see it parked in "our" spot. It'll take some getting used to, for sure!! And, I'm still a little sad the Chrysler didn't get a more fitting farwell. I was amazed at how much stuff we had floating around in that thing. I was trying to be speedy cleaning it out, as we'd been at the dealership for close to 4 hours and my kids were more than a little restless, and the stuff just kept on coming!! I wish I'd been a little more prepared for that... OH well. It all ended well. Now to "organize" the new car. It'll be fun though. Brooklyn was a little sad we didn't get the "white car" (the equinox). For some reason she was attached to it. I'm sure she'll get over it. (Actually, she probably already is). So, welcome to our new member, and if anyone's wondering if we're home, don't look for our red Seabring!!

book swap fun

Heather, if you read this: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I got the most awesome package today. It was from our bookswap, (thanks Debbi), and my person (Heather Perry) went all out! I got Memory Keeper's Daughter, and The Wedding for me (haven't read either :D) two princess books for Brooklyn (yes, she {hearts} princesses) a potty book for Mason (yeah, we'll definitely need that!), and a collection of the The Golden Books stories (who can go wrong with that?? I love them! I am totally spoiled. I actually had a really hard time deciding what to send on this swap. I finally did decide (Sarah, I hope you like them!!) and I LOVE what I got in return. Thank you Debbi, for thinking of such a great idea; and Thank You Heather for choosing such great books and sending such a collection! It's Fantastic!!!

post frustrations

So I was blogging last night, typing along having a great old time. And, somehow, while typing, I highlighted all but the first line of my blog, deleted it, and continued with the original thought. I was so frustrated that I couldn't undo, or bring back the info I just stopped and didn't try again. Sorry! Later today, I will attempt it again, and maybe...just maybe...by then I will have learned how to type!

Enrichment Recipes

I know some of you dedicated readers out there (haha) went to Enrichment this past Thursday and I heard a couple of you say you didn't get the recipes. Jon and I had the strawberry one last night and it was divine. So, I thought I'd post them here, for those of you who have had them and want them. For those of you who haven't, try them! They are delicious! Enjoy!
Wendy's Frosty Recipe (low-fat version)
1 Cup Milk 2 Heaping Tbl Instant choc. pudding
1 tsp vanilla 3 TBL cool whip
7 ice cubes 1/2 splenda packet, or sugar to taste
Blend all ingredients together, pour into cups then freeze for 4-5 minutes

Frozen Fruit Smoothie
1 frozen banana 2 cups frozen strawberries
1 cup milk 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup orange juice 4 TBL Honey
Blend all ingredients, ENJOY!

I love fruit smoothies and Jon actually wanted some of this one. It's a keeper!

weekend babbling

Here we are. Sunday already? Where did the weekend go? After our Friday fiasco, the weekend went pretty uneventfully. Saturday was mostly spent at Archiver's. You know, "making" some money and spending some money (hopefully more of the first than the second). Then Jon and I spent one of his birthday presents and went to dinner (we {heart} gift cards :D ). Next came a jaunt through the mall. FINALLY we got our new phones. After having a plan, that plan being tossed due to unknown circumstances, creating plan B, tossing plan B, and returning to plan A; I now own a Red KRazor. I am loving it! Jon got an LG 8600 and he likes his, too. He wishes he had my ringtones, but...what can you do? It'll be a trick to get used to them, that's for sure. It's fun to get something different though. Today was Jon's first Sunday School lesson, and I thought it went well. He's a natural teacher at this kind of thing (even if he doesn't think so), and I thoroughly enjoy getting to see him at church for more than an hour. Unfortunately, later, Brooklyn's buddies were outside, so we went out; but, Jon got stuck inside due to the fact that Mason was sleeping. Of course, he woke up just after we all came in. Such is the way it usually goes. I am looking forward to not working tomorrow since my class got cancelled, and later in the week Scrapbooking with friends with less guilt. (Sometimes I feel guilty if I leave Mason too much due to the fact that he's kinda a Momma's boy.) Then Saturday is another fun day at work. I can't believe June is almost over already. Mason will be 5 months on Tuesday, and I'm not exactly sure how that happened. He's so big though. His second tooth finally broke through the rest of the way and he's back to his (mostly) happy little self. He's got two teeth, wants to sit up, chews on everything, and if you aren't feeding him what he wants, he won't eat it. It's definitely a switch from Miss Brooklyn. With her, I never knew she was getting teeth until she bit me, she ate whatever we put in front of her, and shots didn't seem to bother her. Mason is the complete opposite. He does eat everything (not so much a fan of fruit) but if he wants baby food, don't even bother to make a bottle, and if he wants a bottle, that cereal is going down the drain for sure! It definitely keeps my life interesting! Anyhow, they're both in bed now (at least Brooklyn is in her room) and or house is quiet for now. That actually reminds me of something funny. The other night, I went to turn on the monitor and tuck the kids in, and this is what I found:


I'm not certain how she ended up on the floor, or why her curtain is open; but with her, you can never tell. It's amusing at least! Have a great week all!

Over the River and through the flood.....

To Debbi's house we go (picture music notes in your head). Today's storm was incredible. I totally LOVE the thunder storms around here, although I could've done without the tornado. Luckily, Debbi and I were together. These things are much more easier to handle when you're not home by yourself with two kids. We started out at her house, but then we decided my house was better because I had two big bathrooms and the laundry room, should we need them. Luckily we didn't, but we were ready. I'd moved a bunch of stuff out and pillows and blankets in. The kids played and we watched the weather. It was a pretty incredible sight. There were at least two tornadoes that we heard of and they weren't very far away. More thunder storms are on their way, too I think. It should be an interesting weekend. After the first round of weather, Debbi decided maybe she should go home. Unfortunately, Mother nature had a different plan. Debbi stayed put and watched helplessly as the water got closer and closer to her door. (I'll let her tell you about that). It was interesting though, to say the least. An afternoon well spent, I'd say! Bring it on -- minus the tornadoes, please!

I love IA weather

I wish I could get a weather map up on this blog entry. I LOVE Iowa weather! We just had an awesome storm move through and they are amazing! They've had tornado sightings and warnings in other counties. I'm glad I'm not there, but I love the thunder storms! There was one huge lightening/thunder that was W-A-Y close to our house. It sounded like someone shot a cannon off right outside our door. Totally cool!!! Except now, Brooklyn won't leave me alone. I'm not a fan of being the jungle gym, but I suddenly am one. {sigh}. Oh well. Mason slept through the whole thing. He's slept a ton today!! The entire time we were at the pool (I can't believe we went swimming today and now this!), and was only awake for a little while. Maybe I'll have a better night tonight. Anyway. I love weather and I wish I had a good pic for everyone. Use your imaginations, I'm sure you'll get pretty close!

Winds of change

As I sit here, having a little snack (forced to take meds :(). I debated changing my blog. I assume someone is getting bored with my dots. BUT...the winds of change are not blowing this evening. None of the other templates caught my fancy. {and} I'm still kinda in love with this one. So, sorry all! You're stuck with Dots for now!

It's been a rough couple nights. Mason and I are having issues sleeping. Me because I have to get up and give Mason his binky, and him because he can't decide if he's hungry or not and goes to bed at 7 p.m. (If I keep him up on purpose..) Tonight though, he took a little catnap, ate a bottle and went to bed with Brooklyn. So maybe, just maybe, I will get to sleep tonight. Just my luck, he'll sleep and I'll wake up because my body is used to waking up every hour. {sigh} Cross your fingers for me. I'm hoping for a full night's rest! Because I can't blog without a pic, here's a fun one from tonight:

spilt milk

To compliment the previous post about my chunky monkey, I'd thought I'd add the pics we captured last night just before bath time. Priceless. I can't decide if it's good or bad, but generally mason puts himself to sleep around 7. Its fine if I knew he'd sleep through the night but some days start awfully early! (yeah I mean 6 or 6:30....TOO early for me!!) We're still trying to decide if we want to sleep through the night. I'm all for it, but Mason bounces between yes and no. Oh well. All in good time, I'm sure.


This was this morning's fun. I was dressed, Mason was dressed, and Brooklyn was dressed (we weren't completely ready, but dressed). I had somewhere to be and felt pretty good that we'd get there on time. Mason was done playing on the floor, so I had him on my lap. Since he's been a little more active, this is quite the trick. Unfortunately, it didn't work out so well today. I'm chatting away with Erica, and suddenly Mason's arm brings my bowl of cheerios, raspberries and milk into my lap. Luckily, the computer was spared, but the table was just letting milk stream onto the floor. I held my hand underneath it to stop the flow, but Brooklyn doesn't understand when I say, "Hurry!! Get a TOWEL!!" To her, that means wander to the bathroom and maybe grab a washcloth. By the time she wandered back, I had overflowed my one hand, put Mason down one-handed and had my other hand under the first. Needless to say, i had to change my clothes and my conversation with Ericas was abruptly ended. Oh well. There's always next time. I think I've caught Erica more online since they left the state than when she's in town! :). I love it though, we haven't gotten to chat for forever. Well, we made it to our appts in time and the day has run smoothly. I'd better keep it up and go feed Mason. Happy decent weather everyone!

new phones

YAY! We finally qualify for "new every two" and it's better than I thought.! I'm so excited to get a new phone. Mine is so beat up and it'll be nice for Jon and I to have at least different colors if not different phones so we can actually tell them apart. I'm debating though. The kRazor or LG 8600 or maybe something else entirely. I love how small they are. I remember my first phone. It seemed small compared to my Dad's "brick" but it would be gargantuon in comparison to these. Technology is so COOL!

ON to other things: Mason is LOVING baby food. The only thing I haven't gotten him to eat so far was Peaches. They were a little sour for his poor little tastebuds. Poor little guy. His face was too funny though. I kept feeding them to him because it was so funny. I know, I'm cruel. After a few spoonfuls, I felt bad and we moved back to cereal. He LOVES sweet potatoes, though. Just like his big sister. Those were the things I could always get her to eat. He loves them too. He is way chunky now too, since we started food. I weighed him only a couple weeks ago and he was at 15 lbs. Jon weighed him tonight and he's up to 16! (according to our scale anyway). Quite the chunky monkey! and the cutest Buddah belly you have ever seen! The cutest kids EVER!! We are having a blast with them and they always have something funny to say. The other night Brooklyn had to gone to bed as usual, gotten up for her usual potty break, and back to bed. At 10:30 I was going to bed so I took Mason into his own (i put him to sleep on my bed so she doesn't wake him up). She had the light on and was laying in her bed. I turned out the light and said, "Good Night!" She said, "Can you turn the light back on so I can see what I'm doing?" I guess she'd had her magna doodle out and didn't feel the need to sleep. Luckily I talked her into closing her eyes for a while and she drifted off. She definitely has a mind of her own! I wouldn't have it any other way! Tomorrow we're off to pick up her pics and I can't wait (we won't make it to the wading pool, though....sorry all, next week, I PROMISE!). They should be very cute. Then as soon as the Grovers wander back into town, We'll get some family pics taken. That will be Mason's first and will be so fun! Well, I'm off to read a little before bed. Swimming

I lovc summer for the swimming. We hit the pool today and it was a BLAST! Even Mason loved it. He wasn't so excited about his floaty thing. I think me letting go of him made him nervous. So, I held him. He didn't mind the cold though because we stood there while he kicked and cooed at Brooklyn. She floated around in her arm floaties, loving every minute of it. It was way fun. I can't wait to go to the park with the crowd next week. (to see what I'm talking about click here. I'm also loving the summer for the time we finally get to spend with Jon. His Journal crap is finally tapering off and he has time to play in the evenings. The last couple days we've spent flying Brooklyn's kite. Tonight's didn't work so well, but he was VERY successful a few days ago.

As he says, "Real men fly princess Kites!"




It's fun to watch them play together. I love it. If we're not flying the kite, we must be playing with bubbles. They're Brooklyn's new favorite. She hasn't even really asked for sidewalk chalk this year which is a little surprising. She is loving her Daddy time as much as he is, I'm sure. It's great to watch them play and Mason really loves to play too. He giggles on occasion. He thinks Brooklyn is always funny, and if we're lucky, Jon and I can get a giggle now and then.

Brooklyn received a package yesterday from my dear sister. The joys of living far from family is that Birthdays last around a month. Brooklyn LOVES it. Sara sent a Barbie car, a cinderella barbie, and a Belle purse. Brooklyn was in HEAVEN. First order of business? Undressing Cinderella. But, due to wardrobe complications we've decided that Cinderella gets to stay dressed from now on. When Sara asked her what her favorite thing was; Brooklyn said, "the treats in the purse." I thought, "Of course, you spend $30 or more and she likes the $1.00 salt water taffy". But, that's standard toddler I'd say. She's been driving the car ever since and only Snow White and Cinderella are allowed to ride. Her ballerina Barbie has yet to make it into the car. Oh well, to each his own, I guess. It's fun to see her play with new things. And, she has no shortage of imagination. That is for sure.

Moving on again: I never told you all about my awesome datenight! We went to Centro (pronounced Chentro) downtown. It is this yummy "New York" Italian place and it was TASTEY! We had a great time just catching up and talking about where we might want to move next summer. Unfortunately, Debbi and Wade didn't have such a great time. Mason puked right after we left, wouldn't ever take his bottle and I guess, except for a short power nap with Wade, screamed the majority of the time. I feel really bad too. So much for me really getting into going on dates. I'm certain people can handle my screaming kids, but I feel so darn guilty! It super fun though and much needed so, again, THANKS DEBBI AND WADE! Well, I think I've babbled enough so, I'm off to tackle May's picture folder!

I'm still alive

Yeah, we're still alive. I've been fighting a bug and not felt like blogging. With a lack of ideas, I haven't felt too bad about that. Today we're off to the pool for the first time this summer. We swam at the motel in Sioux Falls, but this is the 1st official maple grove swim. It will be fun, although all alone (my own fault to be sure). Mason fell asleep, thank goodness, and we just weren't ready in time. I am way bummed about that, but my perception on rushing around with two kids has definitely changed. Plus, I discovered this morning that Mason has a tooth! It hasn't cut all the way yet, so I was thinking, anything we can do to avoid fussiness would be good. Brooklyn's way stoked about going and being alone with two kids will definitely be interesting! I'll let you all know how it goes!

The Quest

I have tried, half-heartedly, since Mason was born to lose the weight that came with him. Now, it's time to get serious. I bought and exercise ball and band workout and tried it this morning. It was actually really fun. I'm excited to get into a routine and I hope I can keep it going. I justified the money by telling myself: at home, I can do it when I have time, and there won't ever be anyone in my way.... Hopefully that is true. I think I'm gonna try a little sticker chart or something on my calendar so I can see how well I'm doing. My goal is this dress: My mom bought it for me while I was in Utah and it came in the mail yesterday. I'm way excited for it. It's quite different than any dresses I have now so the change is exciting.

Someday, it may look this good on me :S. (And, darnet, i might have to get some new shoes....)

Yesterday we went to Target and got Brooklyn's 3 yr pics. They turned out so cute! I was really bummed Erica couldn't do it, but the girl has a life, ya know? Hopefully she'll have time to do our family photos. Brooklyn's pics are supposed to be available online in 10 days or so; so when they are, I'll let you all know how to access/order any prints. I did the usual bunch; but you never know what those grandmas want -- By then I'll have the pics so I'll get those out when I have them. It's so fun to see her grow. I was watching the photo session yesterday and I was thinking, "Sheesh, how did she get so big?? When did she transform from my baby girl to the big-girl she is??" It's amazing how much difference a year can make.

On another side-note: Jon and I are going out on a date tonight...kidless (THANK YOU, DEBBI). He's even made reservations somewhere! I can't remember the last time! Plus, we've had other offers to watch our kids, so those of you who offered...watch out! I may get addicted! I'm way excited, and can't wait to tell you all about it! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Linus

Well, folks. It's dangerously close to being official.... We may have a Linus on our hands. Mason takes a binky (thank the heavens) and is generally good at calming himself. But, if we are having drama, a little blanket by his head does wonders! It is also great when you put him in his carseat (which he isn't generally a fan of...) and he's already tired. Whip that blankie right up next to his ear, pull the sunshade down and ....voila! Asleep Mason. It's great! And so totally cute, I just had to share! (Luckily, which blanket doesn't make any difference. I've gotten away with just a burp cloth before! :D)

On to other things: Brooklyn is nuts some days. She likes to go potty at her friends' houses just to say she did, I think. We went to play with Gage today and one of the first orders of business was....you guessed it, a trip to the potty. (Thank Goodness Gage was willing to share!). No big deal, I'm glad she goes. Later, we stopped at Erik's to drop off something I borrowed, and low and behold....she needs to go! Unfortuntely for her, this didn't happen. But, she really really wanted to. Even if she didn't need to. I wish she had as much gusto about going at home. Especially when she first gets up. The last two or three days, I've had to strip her bed and wash the bedding because she'd peed on it. This wouldn't be such an issue, but we only have one mattress pad for her, so I have to wash it to remake the bed. This morning, she had even gotten her pillow wet. It was D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G. I threatened her with a diaper tonight. JOn is rather against that, though, so she was saved. But, I swear, if I have to do laundry again tomorrow, we are using that last size 5.. NO EXCUSES! It's all very very frustrating. She gets it, I know she does. But it is a fine line to walk between, "Huh, I need to go potty" and "I gotta go, I gotta go, I gotta go! Oh, I didn't make it!" (and Mommy gets to clean it out of the carpet).

Visitng the Dr.

It never fails. We go to the Dr. for a checkup, and inevitable within a week or two we have to go back again for something. Lucky for us, it happened again. Mason and Brooklyn have been fighting colds for a couple weeks now. Nothing threatening, just pain-in-the-butt colds. Last night Mason's eye started gooping up pretty bad. Brooklyln's had goopy eyes off and on the whole time so I didn't really think anything of it. Unfortunately, it was a little more this time. Mason woke up with a swollen eye, red all around it, red on the eyeball, and watering like you wouldn't believe. Oh and lots of GOOP. It was very sad to see. As the morning progressed, he got worse little by little. I have no idea how to tell if something is allergies or otherwise, so I called my mom. She thought maybe it was pink eye and I hadn't even thought of that, so off we went to the Dr.... again. I'm glad we did though, she checked his ears and looked at his eye and gave us an antibiotic. She said that usually the ear on the same side can be sick, too. However in Mason's case, it's his right eye, and his left ear was red. No infections, thank goodness, but he still looks really sad. SO, we got an antibiotic (amoxocillin/pennicillan). It's the stuff I used to love to take (I think) but it isn't pink like I remember. Maybe it isn't the same, who knows. HOpefully it'll work and Mason won't be allergic. Here's our sad p0ics of mason's eye. I'd just cleaned it out (which he didn't appreciate), and Brooklyn's having her treat. It's just may be a LOOONG night for Jon. :S Ah well. Whatever it takes to get us healthy.

Together Again

One weekend, I spend alone and I am almost giddy to go to the airport to pick up my love. He left Friday evening and returned Sunday afternoon, hardly gone. However, I did miss him. There must be something in the air that makes it so. I was thinking about it yesterday. Except for at night, the days are much the same. Somehow, though, it is much more lonely. Even in the day. It was good for Jon to get away, even if only for 24 hours. And for a good cause, I would say. On a lighter note; I have taken yet another plunge. Last night I scrapbooked my first two layouts. However, I have run into a snag already. My second layout is pretty darn good (if I do say so myself). However, I didn't leave a spot for journaling and I want to journal on this page. {Sigh} a connundrum to be sure. Maybe you all could give some suggestions. It's is rather addicting. I almost dragged all my stuff out again tonight, but as Jon is home and I don't know when he will be done napping....I will stick to my computer amusement and my chick flick.

So, I guess the "thing" to do right now is 7 random things that people may not know about you. I have a sneaky feeling I did this on Yahoo. But then, maybe I only did it in my head. Anyhow, I guess I'll get suckered in (I suckered into blogspot, might as well keep going...). Thus, here's 7 random things you may or may not know about ME!

1. I NEVER EVER EVER leave the house (even to run to the grocery store for a gallon of milk) without putting on at least eyeliner and mascara.

2. I learned to drive starting with tractors, moving on to a Two Ton truck, onto a quarter ton truck and finally, just before Driver's Ed, an automatic car.

3. Iowa is the furthest I have ever lived from my immediate family.

4. I HATE Liver (although I can't actually recall ever eating any).

5. When I turned 16, I got a job in Brigham City to avoid Milking cows. (Then, while living in Logan, I kinda wished I'd had time to help out on the farm more...)
