The Drama

Ah the month of love.... We had a really good Valentine's day.  Nothing out of the ordinary really but fun all the same.  The flowers above are my gift from Jon and the cutie below was thanks to my crafty friend.  I missed the night of visiting (super sad about that), but at least I got to make the fun crafty and it turned out super cute! Thanks JoAnn!!

Jon and I didn't get to go out on Valentine's thanks to me spending the evening at work.  We had plans to go out on Thursday but our babysitter was unavailable so we have postponed our date.  Hopefully next week.  It'll be great to get out and by then there won't be any crowds to deal with!  Yay!

If you follow me on Facebook, you already know all the rest of this post but I feel like it's worth a story telling.  If you have followed my blog, you know that when we have well-child appointments I end up going to the Dr. several times before and/or after said appointment.  It just always happens that way.  No, I don't think they pick up bugs while at the Dr.  It's always hear aches or other such complaints that aren't generally contagious.  Or, they're before the actual appointment so we hadn't been there to pick anything up yet.  We're just lucky to make a dozen visits all at once... :).
Well, Mason's well-child was no exception.  About a week before his appointment, Brooklyn had been coughing for around a month and I was sick of it.  So, I took her in.  The Dr. gave her an antibitoic and it seemed to help.  For all I know it could've gone away on it's own, but I always worry that there is something bigger going on that I'm missing.  I just feel better consulting the Dr. when I'm not sure.  So that was Anitbiotic #1 and I had no idea what I was starting.  The next week was Mason's well-child.  He checked out great.  Growing like a weed and didn't even cry when they gave him his last shot for Kindergarten.  I was all prepared to wrestle him down and deal with gnashing of teeth and he just sat there and didn't even cry.  Sheesh.  Oh well.  I'm not complaining.  Unfortunately, the Dr. found an infection in his left ear which wasn't terribly surprising due the cold we were passing around.  Bring on antibiotic #2.  10 days of Amoxocilan.  No problem.  Not long after that Jon was feeling really crappy.  He even stayed home from work.  For 3 days.  That is unheard of for him.  Finally he decided to take himself to the Dr. knowing he had a sinus infection.  Ah joy, antibiotic #3.  Two days after Jon had gone in, Juliane had a couple nights of rough sleeping and acting strangely.  I gave in and took her in only to discover she had ear infections on both sides.  Poor kid.  I felt really bad for her.  I knew she should have gone with Jon... Oh well. Antibiotic #4.  Loving it.  Mason finished his the following Tuesday (I think) and by Friday he freaked out at school and was acting so weird they took him to the nurse who called me and ended up giving him some Tylenol.  That evening he was complaining again and we ended up at the walk-in clinic only to find that his other ear was infected.  Seriously?  Fine, antibiotic #5..... Good Grief.  Hopefully we're done with that.  Julianne's cycle will finish this weekend and I'm crossing my fingers that we've killed every bug we can.  I just can't catch a break.  If we keep up, I won't need to keep Julianne's well-child in April.  I'll just have them do it as we continue to visit weekly for the next 2 months.  I truly hope that is not the case....

In the midst of all our infection fun, I took Brooklyn in to get her hair cut (between Jon's and Julianne's Dr. visits, to be exact).  Her hair is really long and I like it but it is really tangly and she likes to do it herself which ends up being pretty messy by the end of the day.  I just think it's time for a change.  So, in we went to see our favorite Iowa Cosmetologist (Hey Linds!).  Brooklyn was so excited and wanting to cut it shorter than I had in mind.  She even had enough to donate to locks of love which she was stoked about.
Until, that is, Lindsay started running her fingers through her hair.  What did she discover?  LICE EGGS!!  Are you kidding me?  LICE!  Thanks to those little nits, no hair cut for Brooklyn.  Instead we spent $70 at Walgreens and the next two days doing laundry.  Brooklyn and Julianne were the only "lucky" ones, thank goodness and I didn't see anymore as I did Julianne's second treatment this morning.  One more treatment for Brooklyn this afternoon and then hopefully a haircut next week.  She's still stoked about it and hasn't told any of her friends so they'll be surprised.  You'll keep her secret, right?  I'm banking on the fact that no 7-year-olds in Iowa read my blog...
Yeah.  It's been a rocky few weeks.  Hopefully we're done with infections and Lice for a long, long time.  Cross your fingers for me. I can use all the help I can get.

Oh no! I got lice when I was 7 and was SO EMBARRASSED! Poor Brooklyn...and Poor Anne Marie for having to get rid of it! I remember what a hassle it was, and felt so bad for my mom because she had to work so hard to get rid of it. It will just make you enjoy your date night with Jon that much more :-)
