another small step...

...for the mother of the year award. I was just telling Debbi the other day that I really should put Mason in the playpen for his naps. Usually, I lay him on my bed and he (generally) rolls over and goes to sleep. However, he is very rolly-polly and I was worried he would roll off. However, I'm too dang lazy. I'd have to get the playpen out of the case, set it up, put all the pieces in, and find somewhere to put it. Now, I'm sure you're wondering, why don't I just put him in his crib (yes, we do have one)? Well, in our [very] small apartment the kids share a room. (Which is really ok with me). However, this means that if I put Mason in his bed, then Brooklyn is unable to get to her toys. That means she spends every nap time either in front of the tv or asking me to go in and get something for her. A pain in the rear, to say the least. So, he naps on our bed. Sometimes in the afternoon, he is sleepy but not tired enough to sleep. Just enough to be clingy. So, occasionally, I try laying him down for a rest. Yesterday was the same. I laid him down. He didn't roll over and go to sleep, but he didn't fuss either. He was just laying there talking to himself. So, I left him. Once I went in to give him back his binkie and he was still in the middle of the bed. NO worries. Not long after, I was chatting with my mom-in-law online and Mason suddenly started Screaming. Not just a cry scream -- an ear-piercing-I'm-hurt-and-scared scream. My heart instantly started pounding and I started down the hall to find Mason on the floor between my bed and our computer chair. I felt SOOO guilty. I knew it was going to happen...Needless to say; we survived. A bump on the head, some serious guilt, and a good night's rest; and we're back to (relative) normal. He's cutting yet another tooth, so he's been clingy for a few days but other than that, we seem to be ok. I really hate that I'm such an idiot sometimes.

On to less depressing things (for me, anyway) I have some pics that I'm sure some grandmas and aunts/uncles may like to see, so I'm going to just add random pics with information. Enjoy.
This is Mason's super cute new church duds....isn't he handsome!??!!! You can't really beat $2.00 pants, and super cute vest from Wally World. YAY!

Even a little smile :)This is Brooklyn's new fav past time. (because Mason's toys are soooo much more exciting than her own)....She's riding her horse (the tower) and pulling a carriage. She's crazy, I know, but oh so cute! We'll keep them both!! (provided I don't kill them off by dropping them on their heads, or other some sort of neglect.....

1. love the sweater vest! a cute smile!
2. poor little head!
3. Maybe you could let Brooklyn choose some toys before you put mason in the crib and let her know that's what she's playing with while he naps. She could read and play with playdough or do puzzles so that way he's not laying on your bed and rolling around and safely in a crib and brooklyn is still entertained without having to be in front of the tv? That way, b's entertained, Mason's safe and sleeping and you don't have to set up the pen...:)

Poor Mason. He was probably screaming like he was when I went to get him when we were where at your house. He didn't know what to think of me! :( I love the sweater vest! You got that at Walmart? Dang cute!

I love the vest - very cute. I will help you set up that pack and play if your guilt gets to you?! I'm sorry it happened and I understand guilt! Gage has to pick out toys from his room for Noah's two naps. Sometimes he wants to go back in but I don't let him - I have to distract him with paints or playdough. Crafts always work like a charm. I'm glad the little guy is ok - they are so resilant!!!

Anne-Marie! I got your sweet card in the mail today, you are so nice! That was really thoughtful of you :)

You are so not alone in the mommy-guilt! I think we've all been there - it's such a good thing that kids are so resilient :) My girls share a room, too so I make Anna get all the things she needs from the room before Katie takes her nap. Sometimes we have meltdowns because she can't go back in, but she's mostly okay since she was forewarned ;) Anna's favorite thing to do while Katie's napping is make cookies or do crafts... hopefully you'll find something that works! :)

Poor Mason but poor you, he's totally forgotten by now:)
I'd do the pack-n-play idea, put in your room maybe.
I'm glad you have a blog! I love blog stalking!! I have one too of course but you look to be a very consistant poster, I'm hit and miss:)

Poor little Mason. At least it wasn't seven stitches in the forehead eh (like Kile)? The great thing about little boys is that they bounce back quick! Have a great day!

I understand the guilt. Spencer had an accident the other day too. Don't feel bad. We are all doing the best that we can trying to raise our children. No one is perfect. Brooklyn and Mason are lucky to have a great mom.
