We had a birthday at the Logan Hibshman House and Jon made another Transformer cake for another nephew:
It's just amazing to me. I haven't got the patience or the skill. Good thing Jon does! And, what's a Daddy without his princesses? Here's our daddy reading a bedtime Princess and the Pauper to his princesses at bedtime. It was too good a pic to pass up, and yes; Julianne pays attention to the book when you are reading to her :).
On to the post! Since we finally live in a place where seasons occur, we have been enjoying the FRUITS of the season! We have been thoroughly loving the 6 apple trees in the backyard! We have made a few batches of applesauce (more on the way), apple pie, apple crisp and just crunching into a fresh, juicy apple. LOVE IT!
Brooklyn has decided she wants to be helping in the kitchen more and more. Last Saturday the boys went to the football game and us girls (and Mason) had pasta for dinner. Brooklyn helped. This is the only apron we could find for her (heaven knows you can't cook WITHOUT an apron!!). Needless to say, it was a little big and kept falling off....
SO.....What's a mom to do? Oh yeah. Make her one! It was super fun and turned out amazingly cute (if I do say so myself...). Thank goodness Grandma Hibshman has a healthy stock of remnant fabric that worked out perfectly!
Not to be left out, Mason needed one, too. Nothing like Lightning the Queen to make your cooking experience that much more enjoyable. He wouldn't stand up for a picture, though. Silly kid...
Here they are. I did them in afternoon. Wasn't very hard and I'm looking forward to making some more! Maybe the other kids around could use one, or maybe grandma just needs one at her house...
And, the apron that started it all...Carole and I found this SUPER cute pattern and we just couldn't pass it up. So, we ventured to the fabric store and got this uber-cute fabric and went to work.
I had so much fun making this one, and I was looking for a gift to send my sister....so she got one too! I don't have a pic of it, but it was way cute, too. Red and white. One fabric had flowers and the other polka dots. It sounds busy, but it turned out well.. Maybe I'll have to have her send a pic for the old blog.
Here we are, all decked out. Aren't projects fun?? And a few weeks ago, I FINALLY mastered making bread and never blogged about it. I got my mom's recipe from my sister and it worked like a charm! I'd tried to get the recipe from my mom, but she never measured anything and I have to measure EVERYTHING. Luckily Sara could tell it to me in measurements and we've been loving it ever since.
Thank goodness I have sisters. I still miss my mom a ton, but it's comforting to make her recipes and remember her doing the same. Happy October and I'll try not to go sew crazy in the future :)

Impressive!
I love that all three of you got in on the apron action. They are VERY cute! I'm thinking of making little ones for the girls (Christmas) but had planned on following just a waste-down pattern. Is your pattern an online easy-to-follow link, or have a number to find at the fabric store?? I'd love if you passed me the info.
LOVE that you got so much use out of the apples!! Way to go. How nice to be back where the seasons are.
Those aprons look awesome. You sure are crafty.
And Thanks to Jon again for making that cool Transformers cake! It was yummy.
I loved this post. It was so much fun to read! I love your aprons, and wish I knew how to sew like that. It looks like you are having a lot of fun at "Base Station Hibshman"
And that bread looks SO yummy :-)
Which Sarah wants the pattern??? I'd love to give it to you! It's a book by "taylor made designs". See a picture here: http://taylormadedesigns.typepad.com/taylor_made_designs/little-retro-aprons-for-k.html
It has several versions of similar aprons and an apron for a doll. Super cute and super easy. If the darling Sarah that left the comment wants more info, let me know who you are! :)
Haha...after I typed that comment, I wondered if you'd question which darling Sarah it was. Sarah Dresher-long lost roomie! (I'll try to remember to add my full name when leaving comments)
and...I actually cut the materials for the half aprons last night...so I think I'll stick with those this time. Love yours, but don't want to give you the hassle of getting the pattern down to me!
I would like to make an apron! I actually do not have an apron, yes, after 3 years of marriage, still no apron! So lets get together and sew! (oh and we can make bread too!)
Super cute aprons, and bravo Jon for the cake! So now that you've mastered making bread you're not going to share the recipe?? It looks really good!
Cute aprons! I have one in the same fabric! Your kids are getting so big. Your food looks delish!!! I want a piece of your bread...YUM!
What talent! The aprons are awesome. I smiled at your mention of your mom's recipies. I see her name on so many cards in my own file. She was such a good cook! I'd love to add her bread recipe to my file if you wouldn't mind sharing it.
Wow, how crafty are you? I love the fabric on your apron. I actually bought some a year ago and can't decide what to do with it. Maybe an apron...hmmm
Pretty sure we could use some aprons so if you get bored...ya know. The bread looks delish!
way to go - I've been meaning to comment on this post for so long - that bread looks amazing, you mom is proud I'm sure! I want the recipe, it all looks so good! I love that picture of Mason crashed on the floor in his apron, I'm sure you can use that for blackmail some day when he's a teenager:) We miss you guys, I missed your phone call I'll have to try again soon - we don't have school the rest of the week!
ps - can you send jon out here in November to make a cake for Noah? (heck, if he is going to come, you all should come, right?) That is IMPRESSIVE! Make a note now to never let Jon see a picture of ANY cake that I have made!
