journey to domesticated goddess

First off, slightly off the subject (and the title); Brooklyn and I went bowling the other day with my sis-in-law and some cousins. We had a blast. I did terribly. Brooklyn did awesome...blog-worthy, since she scored 113! Pretty awesome, I think. She did use bumpers and the ramp (of course), but honestly, her ball only bounced off the bumpers once. My kid, extraordinary at everything :)

Ok, on to the point of the post. Domesticated Goddess...I've been LOVING having Carole's sewing machine readily available. My newest project?? A Skirt!! Didn't I do awesome?? Ok, Carole helped; as usual, but I still did it! Woohoo for me :). I must admit, according to the pattern, I measured a 12, and since I don't want to admit that I could be a 12, I cut a 10. Not the brightest idea I've ever had, but it all worked out in the end. We just couldn't take the elastic short-cut. We actually had to sew in a zipper (which my mom-in-law did :) ). My sister informs me that patterns are always sized bigger. Next time, I may just follow the directions and do the size it says. Novel, eh?
Next, we are successful!! 7 grandkids = 7 quilts, and they're all pieced, tied, and ready to be bound! Aren't we awesome?? Carole and I have been piecing them for the last month or so. Today, My mom was nice enough to bring up her quilting frames and we tied all 7. It was great!
Waiting to be tied...all 7 :).
the Carole's...hard at work, with Brooklyn supervising of course...

My Mom....
some of the finished products...

and the rest of them... It was so much fun!

Thanks to Carole for putting up with my stubborn determination. Thanks to my Mom for indulging us, driving to Logan, and spending the day. I had a blast and I feel very accomplished! ON to the Binding!!

I think pattern sizes make you feel so big - seriously, my mom made my wedding dress and it's a size 12, I was size 6 in the store if I would have bougt one off the rack - what's up with that?!?!

cute job - love the skirt and the quilts - way to go brooklyn on the bowling score!

Great job on the skirt. I also love the quilts. I have been in such a quilting mood although I don't know how to do it. I would love to sit down with a bunch of old ladies from my grandma's church some day and have them teach me all the tricks. I think they are so beautiful and so full of memories and life. Now everytime that you look at those quilts, you will think about all the memories from making them.
